As the Communist Party took over the power in 1945, in Slovenia the attitude to the cultural influences of the West became tenser. On the music scene, jazz became synonymous of unwanted Western influences. In the period of total imitation of the Soviet cultural model, the authorities prevented the performance of jazz in various ways, but after the Cominform dispute, jazz returned on the music scene.

The article deals with the percepcion of the Prague Spring and its demise in Slovene/Yugoslav politics on the basis of the archive sources, especially of the Central Committee of the LCY/LCS and the State Security Servise, as well as newspapers and relevant literature. The response of the Yugoslav authorities to the invasion of the Czechoslovakia caused a chain reaction in the internal, external and defence policy. The state of emergency also considerably worsened the already limited freedom of expression – especially for the press, which the Party subordinated to its interests completely.
