On the basis of archival material of the Historical Commission the author reveals, that in the period of socialism the strongest lever of control over historiography was ideological monopolization of the past, whereas the most subtle research field was modern history. The strategy of authority regarding historiography was reflecting in politically motivated establishing of institutions, which had to deal with modern history, in control over recruitment, in absence, inaccessibilty or limited accessibilty of historical sources and in stimulation of the preferential research themes.

The author has shown the forms and methods of censorship in Slovenia in the period of Communism. Immediately after the end of the war in 1945, the new authorities composed a list of banned books, which had to be removed from libraries and bookshops. The introduction of so-called social management in cultural institutions in the middle of the 1950’s changed the method of censoring books. The role of censor was taken over by publishing councils, which carried out preventive or prior censorship. Suspensive or subsequent censorship was limited in particular to imported books.

The contribution analyses two types of censorship interventions into repertoire of Slovenian theatres in the period between the two world wars and the period after 1945. Before World War II, the censors mostly came from the Catholic circles, while in the second period they were a part of the Communist Party. Even though they opposed each other politically, censors in both periods adhered to the common idea of censorship: to abolish everything not in line with their ideology. The Catholic model explicitly prescribed what to forbid, while the Communist censorship worked behind the scenes.
