One of the best-known classifications was developed by geographer Hammond, who classified the landforms of the USA. His method was applied and adapted for Slovenian conditions using ageographic information system and digital elevation model. Hammond's original method was suitably adapted by changing the form and size of the basic window and by changing the boundaries between classification element classes. Nineteen land-form units were thus identified in Slovenia using the adapted method.
F.02 Acquisition of new scientific knowledge
COBISS.SI-ID: 30786349Using the adapted Hammonds' method of we improved the previous relief classifications of Slovenia that are based on the digital elevation model - using the geographic information system. Nineteen landform units grouped into five landform groups were thus identified. According to Hammond'sadapted method the group of plains occupies 18% of Slovenia, the group of tablelands less than 1%, thegroupof plains with elevations 1%, the group of elevations with plains 64%, and the group of elevations 17%.
