sPLA2s exert besides enzymatic activity also versatile pharmacological effects. Ammodytoxis (Atx) and basic subunit of crotoxin (CB), sPLA2s from snake venoms, are anticoagulant as well as neurotoxic. Anticoagulant effect results from binding of these sPLA2s to blood coagulation factor X (FXa), neurotoxicity may be related to binding to CaM. The aim of this project is to determine the 3D structure of complexes between Atx (and CB) and FXa or CaM as a starting point for designing of the synthetic peptides or peptidomimetics with anticoagulant and antineurotoxic effect to be used in clinics.

COBISS.SI-ID: 0000000The proposed project is aimed at developing new drug candidates to prevent thrombosis. The task of the young researcher is developing ammodytase from the venom of the long-nosed viper (Vipera ammodytes ammodytes) towards pre-clinical and clinical studies. In addition, she is systematically analyzing repertoire of proteins from Vipera a. ammodytes venom for those components that interfere with haemostasis to discover new molecular tools to be used in blood testing and characterization.
