In the invited lecture we talked about our research on CoFe2O4 films. Crystallographic analysis of the films revealed excellent epitaxy despite a large lattice mismatch. A very low surface roughness, below an average of 3nm, was identified by AFM in all films. The nanogranular surface appearance with grain diameters from 20-50nm originates from a type of island-growth mechanism. The post-annealing increases the grain size indicating that some type of diffusion occurs during the post annealing. A compressive lattice strain causes the reduction in the unit cell in all three crystal directions.
