Antimicrobial activity of extracts from several plant tissues was investigated. The extracts were prepared by conventional and high pressure CO2 extraction (supercritical extraction). The following plants were tested: Ginkgo biloba L. leaves, Nicotiana tabacum L. leaves, green tea (Camellia sinensis L.), green coffee beans (Coffea arabica L.), red onion (Allium cepa L), hops (Humulus lupulus) and guarana seeds (Paullinia cupana). Results showed that different antimicrobial activities were due to the applied solvents and due to the species of a microbe used in study.

COBISS.SI-ID: 12984598Final report includes all activities that were performed for assessment of total use of hop cultivar Aurora. Experimental part of report includes analytical methods, extraction processes and mass bilances of extraction processes. The report additionally includes possibilities of use of the hop biomass after extraction and discussion about performed work from point of view of SWAT analysis, C/B assessment and ROI criteria.
F.05 Ability to launch new technological development cycle
COBISS.SI-ID: 684919In a process for extracting products of value from animal or vegetable starting material the intention is to provide a solution with which the extraction is improved in terms both of the yield and the separation of natural products to be extracted and of the process management. This is achieved by extracting soluble constituents from the starting material in a first extraction step with the aid of CO2, and subsequently extracting further constituents in a second extraction step with compressed hydrocarbons.

COBISS.SI-ID: 13397526Due to the increase of hazardous solvent emission and generation of aqueous waste streams, there is an obvious need of finding new and cleaner methods for the processing of polymers. Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) has attracted particular attention for these applications due to its tremendous potential as a plasticizer in polymer processing. A particular interest is shown to the use of supercritical fluids for processing polymers destined for biomedical applications (as microspheres, microcapsules, foams, membranes, polymer/drug composites).
D.09 Tutoring for postgraduate students
COBISS.SI-ID: 13171478The aim of the work was determination of process parameters in a laboratory scale for the separation of components in hops extract by SFC. By differing different parameters (pressure, temperature, flow, quantity of co solvent, the concentration of hops ...), the size and shape of peaks on the chromatogram was monitored. The results of this work are important for transfering experiment from the laboratory scale into industry scale.
