New laboratory test for simulation of thermal fatigue of metals was developed. It enables computer guided heating and cooling of specimens and results in constancy of thermal loadings and consequently improves reliability of obtained data. The developed test will most certainly contribute to better explanation of cracks formation and their growth in metallic materials and will improve the ability to select the optimal material (surface, etc.) for specific application.

COBISS.SI-ID: 847711An improved technique of temperature measurement on the bearing surface of industrial die during hot extrusion of aluminium and an assessment of the heat transfer coefficient has been carried out. The results were utilized for improving of constructions of extrusion dies. This leads to increased productivity and improving of mechanical properties of extruded profiles. In year 2008 the profit the extrusion process in Impol eas increased for about 1.000.000 EUROs. Similar increasing of profit was achieved also in year 2009 and 2010.

COBISS.SI-ID: 847199Nitriding proces parameters of as well as previous die surface preparation play decisive role at quallity of obtained microstructure especially at renitriding. In both case this results inappropriate characteristics of microstructure that decreased the die sevice time. Appropriate nitriding time, temperatures and gas mixture were assessed regarding to industrial meassurement on base of obtained nitrided microstructure as well as of service time of dies.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1012831The Latin hypercube sampling technique (LHS) was used for modelling of the uncertainty of measured industrial data and CAE NN was used for analysis of the mutual dependence of influencing parameters. Despite using small database, it was possible to considerably increase the yield ? for industrial hot rolling. This approach was applied also other hot working tool steel at their production and in year 2010 the profit was increased for 500.000 EURO. Now this achievement is in process for obtaining of special award of Slovenian Chamber of Commerce.

COBISS.SI-ID: 894815A non-parametric model is proposed for modelling the influence of different technological and chemical parameters on the mechanical properties of the 6082 aluminium alloys during the hot extrusion with special consideration on human factor. It was shown that human factor (influence of process engineers) is important and that it can be efficiently modelled and taken into account by the proposed Conditional Average Estimator (CAE) method. Production may be improved (optimized) by proper education and/or by eliminating critical process engineers.
