The measurements of the concentration and size distribution (10–1000 nm) of nonradioactive nano aerosols in the Postojna Cave have revealed that the concentration of the <50 nm fraction is an order of magnitude higher than that of others and also markedly faster decreases because of tourist visits. It may be concluded that high concentration of the unattached fraction of radon decay products in the Postojna Cave is due to dominant fraction of the <50 nm nonradioactive aerosols, and not only due to high air humidity enhancing aerosol wash-out.

COBISS.SI-ID: 23280679Emission of nanoparticles to a work atmosphere and to environment represents a serious risk for human health, quality of life and work conditions. Small size of nanoparticles is a serious obstacle for their counting and different approaches have been discussed together with some novel techniques, which are still in under development. In addition, an ideal design of a factory of nanomaterials was proposed and monitoring places suggested. Typical nanoparticle concentrations in different environments and a measuring process using two commercial nanoparticle detectors have been presented.
