The article presents the work conducted during the compilation of the SLA. Special software, based on a carefully designed database, linked to the GIS, was developed. It not only allows accurate input of dialectological data and their analysis at different language levels but also the application of different cartographical methods. The article includes linguistic comments on the examined vocabulary (referring to the term ?hip’), and emphasizes the problems that geolinguists have to cope with when transferring concrete linguistic data onto linguistic maps.

This monograph is an extensive analytical-synthetic dialectological work on the dual. Selected dual forms are presented using linguistic geography procedures and placed within a wider theoretical comparative framework. The range of dialectal dual forms is presented on 26 dialect maps; the comments analyze the material and point to gradual pluralization according to word classes and their forms, complete loss of dual, and possible reasons for this. The work presents and analyzes the names of body parts that will be published in the first volume of the SLA: lexemes denoting paired body parts.
