The article is about the origin and the name of the stone shelter, found on island of Korcula, Croatia. Historical facts confirm the contacts between Catalan and Korculan people, especially the sailors in the middle ages. The construction of the typical shelter is the same, as well as the word 'toreta', which is in Catalunya often. At least: Monte negro is not far from Korcula: and the name comes from Castillian or Catalan, not from Italian language.

The stone structures on the island of Korcula wear the same specifics and wear two different names: vrtujak and toreta. Vrtujak is an object of the West, and toreta lies on the central part of the island. University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Architecture (prof Borut Juvanec) searched the island stone objects in the frame of ARRS Project in 2oo6 to 2o1o. The results of this documentation and documentation were several exhibitions: in the town of Korcula, Zagreb, Ljubljana, finally as museum exhibit in Ethnological Museum of Vela Luka.

Chozo is an object in dry stone, typical for Extremadura, Spain. It can be thached with straw, or is whole in stone, in corbelled construction. Today can be seen a lot of those object, even on the plains. Those are equipped with chimneys. Constructions are nowadays unfropessional restored, with help of cement. The book has two parts: research and documentation and it has introduction of president of parliament, of president of Architect Organization and of president of Arte. It is in English and in Castillian language.

The book Earthen Domes and Habitats is a part of wide project about the earthen architecture of Mediterranean. The chapter of BJ shows overview of stone construction from Island to Yemen, from Lanzarote on Canaries to Palestine and Sinai. In the chapter can be found the theory of corbelled construction, with help of square root of three by two. Some of the shelters are still in use, for instance trullo in Apulia. The chapter is longer than other, and is equipped with photos, sketches and technical drawings.

Museum exhibition in the Ethnological Museum Vela Luka on the island of Korcula is one of two permanent exhibitions known. The exchibition is result of scientific work of Ljubljana University, Faculty of Architecture (prof B Juvanec), under high patronage of his excellency ambassador to Republic of Croatia, dr Mario Nobilo. The exchibition contains scientific work on corbelling (in dry stone), overview in the world, and shelters in Croatia, especially on the island of Korcula: vrtujak and toreta. Museum is crowded, and the visit is a part of continuous school process until higschool.
