Mitochondria are sub-cellular organelles that perform a large number of reactions in eukaryotic cells. Most of mitochondrial proteins are nuclear encoded, synthesized in the cytosol, and are post-translationally imported into mitochondria. We investigated effects of 23 nucleus encoded mitochondrial genes on carcass, meat and eating quality in a Wagyu x Limousin F2 population of beef cattle. Study would provide new genetic markers to help producers produce high quality products that improve human health.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2234760Pedigree structure was analysed for 81079 animals. The average inbreeding was 10.4%. Effective number of founders for males and females was 119.5 and 382.0, respectively. The proportion of the genes contributed to the reference population of females by the most important ancestor was 2.8% The first 70 ancestors explained around 50% variability in gene pool.
