To our knowledge, this is the first publication on quantitative estimation of standard uncertainty of Mg palaeothermometer in laminar stream carbonates. The largest uncertainty is attached to the correlation between Mg/Ca ratio of water and temperature and experimentally determined Mg distribution coefficient between water and carbonate. These can be reduced by increased number of analyses in longer time series and more precise determination of distribution coefficients in laboratory experiments, simulating the natural, karst-like conditions.

The presentation deals with different factors, influencing the palaeoclimate signals preserved in tufas in river Krka (Slovenia). The seasonal and annual variability of chemical and isotope parameters of water and precipitates, their interdependences and correlation with temperature and hydrological conditions were evaluated. Poor correlations are explained by the complicated recharge mode and hydrological situation of the river, which receives water not only from several surface tributaries, but also from many point- and diffuse subsurface sources; many of them are not yet localised.
