Researchers have found how individual and also contextual characteristic influence the sense of neighbourhood, formation of social ties in the neighbourhood, and development of place attachment, mainly in western Europe and USA. In the article we test how individual and contextual factors influence sense of neighbourhood in Slovenia. Significant differences in influence of gender, education and income are noted.

The book tries to answer the question whether in the context of late modernity locality still is important for cooperation and cohesion of individuals. It focuses on neighbourhoods and how they work. Slovenia is empirically analysed. Main findings are that local social networks are becomming less important and decresing support between neighbours. Vulnerable groups are however more conected to the neighbourhoods.

We analyse housing conditions of vulnerable groups in the Municipality of Ljubljana, focing on the vulnerable groups: single parent households, households with children, older people and low income groups. The economic situation of vulnerable groups is portrayed and their housing strategies for improving their housing situation are described. The results of the analysis indicate that specific support measures are needed for vulnerable homeowners. The article also warns of the danger of development of wrack-renting, i.e. rentingof low quality, low cost dwellings.

In the article we discuss what is the evaluation of elderly of their neighbourhood, the role of neighbours in their social support networks and the changes in time. At that we observe the neighbourhood as a potential actor in community care (indicating social cohesion at this level). The results indicate that the importance of neighbourhood is decreasing and that the neighbours are less often the source of various types of social support.

A cohesive society is a society in which all its parts contribute to the collective social project and welfare, and where conflicts between social aims and groups are minimised. Along with other relevant factors, welfare systems have an influence on the cohesion of contemporary societies. The article analyses the level of (perceived) tensions among different social groups in the framework of a comparative analysis among selected EU countries.
