Modeling of hydrological processes in the karst areas is one of the biggest challenges in the field of hydrogeology. In the paper new approach of modeling is presented. The approach enables, despite the complex groundwater flow pattern in karst underground, prediction of discharge of a typical karst spring and estimation of water balance in the spring's catchment area which is of great importance for management and protection of the water resource.

Hydraulic head field is basic information in most of hydrogeological studies, therefore its accurate estimation is of crucial importance for the quality of results of the studies. In the paper different models of interpolation were presented. They were tested in the area of Ljubljana polje. Based on the validation of the results of the models, recommendations for the interpolation procedure, that ensures more accurate interpretation of hydraulic head field, were given.

Vegetation has an important role in hydrological cycle and consequently in water balance of water resources. In the paper innovative approach of hydrological modeling, that uses remotely sensed information as input data in the model, is presented. The case study confirmed improvement of accuracy of hydrological model with the use of vegetation variables, estimated from the set of satellite images.

In the paper mapping of intrinsic groundwater vulnerability, based on SINTACS methodology, is presented. For estimation of parameters of the methodology results of hydrological modeling, transformed into GIS information layers, were used. Result of the procedure is a map of intrinsic vulnerability of the aquifer which is a basis for protection of water resource, planning of sanitation measures and for other activities from the field of spatial planning.

On the invited lecture research methodology for transboundary aquifers and results of the study of aquifer system between Koper and Kvarner bay was presented. It is an example case study for definition of tranboundary water resources and their hydrogeological properties which will be the basis for bilateral agreements between the countries about common protection and sustainable exploitation of the transboundary water resources.
