Due to high content of nitrogen in some waste products their application or final deposition on agricultural land as a supplement to plant nutrients is reasonable. However, in cases of high loads, the consequences could result in negative environmental impacts and reduced plant growth. In the research the concentrations of soil nitrogen and nitrogen in plant leaf and wood parts irrigated with leachate have been followed. The results were compared with the data from the literature to define sustainable way of leachate application for the irrigation purposes of sites planted with woody crops.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2111398Commonly used conventional landfill leachate and compost wastewater treatment processes require high energy and capital inputs and can generate large quantities of by-products, thus forcing the managers of such facilities to look for alternative possibilities for wastewater treatment. A presentation of robust, sustainable and affordable systems, enabling on-site treatment of such wastewater with little labour, was given. Plantations with poplar and willow trees can offer an opportunity for ecological leachate treatment as an irrigation and fertilization source.

COBISS.SI-ID: 26294745The interest for biological leachate treatment systems is increasing. One of such methods is irrigation of landfill cover layers planted with fast-growing woody crops with landfill leachate. The goal is to increase plant growth with the nitrogen present in leachate as well as reduction of leachate amount by evapotranspiration. The potential of the use of leachate to accelerate plant growth has been presented, considering the leachate composition, local climatic conditions, soil characteristics, irrigation method applied and characteristics of selected plant material.

COBISS.SI-ID: 30808069The research was performed for the Municipal landfill site and Waste Management Centre Vrhnika, who are looking for a sustainable solutions for their landfill leachate and compost wastewaters. The amounts of possible wastewater recycling on the landfill surface have been defined and the possibilities of planting of fast-growing woody plants.

COBISS.SI-ID: 25561817The use of renewable energy sources (RES) has lately been increasingly put forward. The important role among them plays biomass for heating purposes and generation of electricity. The paper presents sustainable ecoremediation treatment approaches of waste products with simultaneous generation of biomass as RES with a closed mass flow, where a waste from one side represents a nutrient and enery source on the other side.
