In the book expert fundamentals needed for the knowledge on ecoremediation (ERM) function are presented. Basic information on ecosystems, ecosystem performance and extreme ecosystems as a basis for ERM development are given. First the description of traditional ERM methods is given, followed by a detailed description of newer approaches. The last part of the book is dedicated to education on ERM and socio-economic acceptance of the latter. The book is an important contribution to awareness rising on sustainable approach towards environment protection and knowledge on ERM methods.

With the research we wanted to find out to what extend different pollutants can be eliminated from drinking water using constructed wetlands (CW). The experiments took place at the pilot CW fed by the water from a local water well. For better study on efficiency in nitrates, pesticides and E.coli elimination, these pollutants were added to the inflow. CW turned out to be a very efficient but not a 100% method for elimination of bacterial pollution, nitrates and pesticides, and reduction of turbidity.

The soil is subdued to different degradation processes such as erosion, floods, mechanical degradation, salinization, pollution etc., that cause volume loss, structure destruction, loss of organic matter and biological activity and reduce soil fertility. Ecoremediations (ERM) present a suitable method for mitigation of these impacts. Towards a better quality of degraded soil, ERM contribute mainly through habitat function that increases biodiversity of organisms in the soil, but also through self-cleaning function and function of water retention.

In the paper we find out that ERM in Pomurje could significantly contribute to the improved human health protection, better employment possibilities, life-long learning and management of natural resources. According to the indicators of labour market Pomurje is the least developed region in Slovenia, thus with ERM we could offer additional employment possibilities also for experts who are leaving the region due to lack of suitable jobs. ERM are not only the technology, but also an approach of innovative development and mean more indirect benefits and not only quality environment maintenance.

The book presents ecoremediation approach to revitalization of canalized watercourses. Ecoremediations of canalized watercourses present a different way of stream management which includes whole watershed and not only the riverbed. It involves structural and functional link between the ecosystems with which a good ecological water status is achieved. Dealing with reconstruction of degraded water courses, the structure and function of water ecosystem has to be achieved with appropriate measures. The book therefore includes detailed descriptions of stream revitalization techniques with examples.
