For the first time since its foundation, Europäische Totentanz-Vereinigung has invited a Slovenian scholar to publicly present his findings regarding the fifteenth-century mural paintings of the Dance of Death in Istria (Beram and Hrastovlje). In his paper "Der Totentanz des Meisters Vincenz von Kastav in Beram" at the international symposium organized by the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut, Dr. Tomislav Vignjević discussed the combination of northern iconographic patterns and distinctive Italian models, which resulted in original local variants.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1415379In the academic year 2007/2008 Dr. Stanko Kokole became the first Slovenian scholar ever to have been awarded the prestigious senior fellowship at the internationally renowned Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts in Washington, D.C. (http://www.nga.gov/resources/casva.shtm). Apart from promoting Slovenian art historical scholarship among his distinguished colleagues in the U.S.A., he also secured a generous donation of scholarly books - valued at 21,500.00 USD - from the National Gallery of Art for the fledgling library of the University of Primorska.
