The thesis presents the proposed method for evaluation of earthquake architecture. It is shown thru examples that the method could be used also in practise in order to enhance the relations between the architectural desihb and earthquake engineering.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2385028The paper presents the basic principles of seismic isolation, its historical review and the basic characteristics of nowadays used seismic isolation devices. The major architectural particularities of base isolated buildings are also shown. In the second part of the paper the efficiency of seismic isolation was analyzed for an idealized typical European residential/office reinforced concrete building subjected to various intensities and frequencies ground motions.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2079108The analysis of an steel frame high-rack warehouse structure in Trebnje subjected to seismic loading is presented in the paper. Apart from the initial symmetric model, various asymmetric variants with different distributions have been considered. It has been shown that certain eccentricities can lead to damage propagation in some of the columns in the racking part on the flexible side. A base isolation system made of elastomeric isolators was thus designed and analysed for the given structure. It has been concluded that its application has a positive effect on the behaviour of the structure.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2328964Seismic isolation has become a realistic alternative for decreasing the seismic vulnerability of heritage architecture. The article deals with a special technical aspect of base isolation design of slender rigid objects on elastomeric isolators, by considering the condition that the isolators cannot bear any tensile forces under simultaneous horizontal and vertical ground excitations. The results are presented as maximum allowable aspect ratios for different vibration periods, ground conditions and design ground accelerations.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2315396The article briefly presents the applicability of base isolation made of elastomeric isolators for the protection of heritage architecture. The first part of the article gives an illustrative overview on the use of base isolation throughout the world, together with an analysis of guidelines for the protection and management of places of heritage architecture. In the second part of the article the general and some special requirements for base isolation design with elastomeric isolators are presented. The influence of the slenderness of the structure is analysed more in detail.
