Antibiotic policy in central and eastern Europe (CEE) was presented. Interventions and surveillance of antibiotic consumption in ambulatory and in hospital care in Slovenia were presented widely.

Slovenian experiences on implementation of EU recommendation on the prudent use of antimicobial agents in human medicine were presented. Recommendations on appropriate use of antimicrobials and improved infection control were emphasized.

Tatjana Lejko Zupanc, member of the research project investigated in retrospective study the antibiotic treatment adherence and quality indicators to the national guidelines for CAP in Slovenia. He concluded that the largest deviations from the guidelines were in empiric antibiotic therapy for the CAP.
