In this study patients with ishemic stroke were included. Serum creatinine and cystatin C were measured and for each measure, patients were divided into quintiles. Serum cystatin C is independent and stronger predictor of short term mortality in patients after ischemic stroke than is creatinine.

In this study patients with diagnosis of ischemic stroke and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) < 90 ml/min/1.73m2 were included. There were 49 in-hospital deaths, patients who died were older, had lower GFR and higher hs-CRP. Association between in-hospital mortality and GFR, total and LDL cholesterol and hs-CRP was found. With multivariable regression analysis, GFR, total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol were only predictors of in-hospital mortality. In patients with ischemic stroke, decreased GFR was associated with higher in-hospital mortality.

Lecture presents the problem of diagnostic estimations in clinical practice. Diagnostic estimations are important in patients with chronic kidney disease where estimation of glomerular filtration rate is used to classify patients in different stages of chronic kidney disease.
