The invited lecture deals with air valves as devices for attenuation of water hammer effects during cavitating flow regimes. Large water hammer may be induced after air valve closure following air admission and release. Air valves are modelled using static and dynamic characteristics. Basic principles of mathematical modelling including original findings in laboratory testing have been presented. The lecture was attended by experts from Canada and USA.
F.18 Transfer of new know-how to direct users (seminars, fora, conferences)
COBISS.SI-ID: 10957851Litostroj has developed a double-flow horizontal-shaft Francis turbine that consists of a single spiral casing, two guide vane apparatuses, double runner and two draft tubes. The turbine is settled above the tailwater level. This enables operation of one side of the double-runner from turbine start-up to full-partial load whereas the other side of the runner rotates free of water. In the next step the second side of the runner is gradually opened to full-turbine load. The main advantage of the newly developed turbine in comparison with a single-runner one is a much wider range of operation.

COBISS.SI-ID: 10363419Hydraulic transients are essential for safe operation of hydropower plant. Litostroj has manufactured three vertical tubular turbines for customer in Canada. The turbines have been developed in Litostroj during the last decade. A rigid water hammer model of water turbine unit has been developed within this and other projects. Transient pressure, rotational speed and axial hydraulic force have been carefully analysed.
F.17 Transfer of existing technologies, know-how, methods and procedures into practice
COBISS.SI-ID: 11056411The turbine simulator is device which was developed to be used for factory testing and factory setting of turbine governors. Using the input and output modules it is communicating with hydraulic pressure unit and turbine governor, so it receives, calculates and sends real time data for turbine governor operation. It is developed to simulate reaction water turbine operation in mechanical run as well as load operation.
F.06 Development of a new product
COBISS.SI-ID: 10695963Hydraulic transients are essential for safe operation of hydropower plant. Litostroj has refurbished and ugraded four Pelton turbins for a customer in Montenegro. New nozzles and internal servomotors have been developed and instaled. A new theoretical model for Pelton turbine has been developed as a part of doctoral study. The model simulates simultaneous action of nozzle and jet deflector taking into account hydraulic and mechanical torques. Numerical results are compared with results of measurements.
