With our partners TKC d.o.o. and TCG Unitech th-ol d.o.o. we developed a few new technologies of laser welding. Some of them will be patented. The known technology of laser repair welding has been improved and optimised. Based on this research and development we are offering new services of laser welding on the market. We are also developing new research methods and methods of testing, with which the testing of laser welds and cladding will be done. With these tests the resistance and the quality of welds will be evaluated.

COBISS.SI-ID: 10556443Die-casting dies are exposed to high thermal and mechanical loads. Thermal fatigue cracking of dies may importantly shorten the life-time of the die. Cracks degrade the surface quality of dies and consequently the surface of castings. Thermal fatigue cracking of dies was analyzed during the process of die casting aluminium alloys. Cracks formation was observed and measured and their location and size were determined. Thermal and mechanical loads cause high local stresses and consequently surface cracks. First cracks occur as early as after 2000 cycles and propagate progressively with cycles.
F.02 Acquisition of new scientific knowledge
COBISS.SI-ID: 11222299A laser welding techniques were used to repair moulds used in the plastics industry and in pressure die-casting. Hard coatings are applied to steel surfaces to protect them from erosion and to improve the resistance against thermal cracking. These hard coatings significantly reduce weldability of the material. Repair welding tests were carried out on gas-nitrided and PVD (TiN, CrN, TiAlN) coated martensitic chromium hot work steel plates. Microstructural analysis and investigation of defects formation are closely observed and reveal best laser welding method for duplex-treated tools.
