In collaboration with VARSI Company the varistor-type polymer composites were developed which are characterized by current-voltage nonlinearity and due to the PTCR effect also current (energy) self regulation. With the use of proper polymer and with addition of varistor powder as filler, in proper amount and with proper particle size, the varistor-type polymer composite with nonlinearity of about 17 was obtained.

COBISS.SI-ID: 22995751High-energy varistor ceramics with reduced amounts of dopants, a relatively low threshold voltage of about 130V/mm and an energy absorption capability of at least 600J/cm3 were developed. Based on this, high-energy varistors of various forms were successfully realized in regular production with characteristics required for class I (5kA, 10/350) and class II (40kA, 8/20) in accordance to the standard IEC 61643-11 and connected in parallel to form so-called »varistor twins« mounted in the protection modules with an energy absorption capability up to 14kJ.

COBISS.SI-ID: 20512551In collaboration with VARSI Company we developed processing of hollow varistors with a length in the range from 30 to 60 mm using slip-casting technology with a water suspension into a gypsum mold. The hollow varistor is a new form of varistor that opens up novel possibilities and solutions for the realization of applications for over-voltage protections. Processing such a product using slip-casting technology has several advantages in comparison to the classical way of pressing the varistor granulate, is more energy efficient and in our case realizable with already available equipment.

COBISS.SI-ID: 22995495Current project in which we collaborate with Varsi Company in development of varistors for overvoltage protection of energy systems and power plants based on the renewable sources such as solar panels and wind turbine generators. The developments of varistor ceramics for the varistors is strongly based on the knowledge obtained within the project L2-9175 on the preparation of low-doped varistor ceramics for various threshold voltages (V/mm).
