In this lecture the basic principles enabling the hydrothermal synthesis of ultra-fine barium-hexaferrite nanoparticles were presented. The decrease in the size of the synthesised nanoparticles into the superparamagnetic range was only possible by decreasing the temperature of their formation. The knowledge related to the formation of the [Fe(OH)4]nn- complexes at a very high excess of (OH)- ions enabled the reduction of the nanoparticles’ formation temperature by more than 50 oC, thus enabling the synthesis of nanoparticles with sizes below 10 nm.
