High nitrate concentrations in the Sorško polje aquifer result in disrupted water supply from pumping station Godešič, therefore at present this puming station serves only as an alternate water source for the municipality of Škofja Loka. On the basis of additional hydrochemical investigations three potential locations were identified, on which we expect groundwater with lower concentrations of nitrates and also pesticides and other anthropogenic groundwater contaminants.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1721173The article deals with the possibility of groundwater capture by means of a groundwater drainage tunnel in the area of Krim mountain range for a supplementary water supply of the city of Ljubljana. Within the scope of the investigation, a detailed geological mapping of the area was carried out, and hydrogeological, geophysical and engineering-geological research was performed. A water balance of the recharge area was calculated, indicating considerable quantities of groundwater which could be captured with an underground drainage tunnel.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1645397The European Water Framework Directive (WFD) requires good chemical and quantitative status and reversal of all negative trends for all groundwater bodies. The Geological Survey of Slovenia formed an expert group which has prepared an expert basis for WFD directive implementation. In the expert basis all necessary activities are planned, from groundwater status assessment and problem identification to the proposal of measures for achieving good chemical and quantitative status of Slovenia's groundwater.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1661781The latest knowledge on groundwater interstitial aquifers confirm a hypothesis that they are indeed a specific ecosystem and not only “a bucket of water”. In the article are presented mechanisms of water exchange between epigean and sub-surface aquifers. A special attention was put on specific fauna, inhabiting those habitats and its role in determination of water quality.

COBISS.SI-ID: 23993817Extraction of gravel directly from the river is still a practice in Slovenia. A detail study, recording situation before, during and after gravel extraction on a limited area revealed, that extraction impacts on physical and chemical characteristics of interstitial water and modified morphology of the river bed. It has also an effect on fauna, which determine water quality in interstitial. Impacted fauna is composed from different groups, characteristic either for epigean streams and rivers or of strict subterranean (stygobitic) taxa.
