Collecting survey data on ego-centered social networks is a difficult task due to complex questionnaire format. Self-administered modes of data collection, especially web data collection, are particularly problematic, as the respondents are left alone with a complex and burdensome questionnaire. The paper develops an approach that leads to optimal and standardized format of capturing social network data with web questionnaires.

The paper compares methods for detecting and measuring regular equivalence in valued networks. The methods compared can be divided into direct and indirect methods. The indirect methods considered are all variants of recent REGE algorithm, while direct methods have been evolved since 1990’s. Approaches are compared on an empirical valued social network. Advantages and disadvantages of approaches are discussed.
