The article deals with the historical and the social role of national theatres. Her analyses of the link between national theatres and mechanisms of social surveillance and of the role of ethnical, geographical and political marks in names of theatres are based on examples of the former Yugoslavia, where in 1990 there were 35 national theatres. The establishing of many national theatres in the former Yugoslavia is considered to be a simptom of the decline of the state and of the increasing ethnopluralism. The book collection is edited by prof. Janelle Reinelt, and prof. Brian Singleton.

An Introduction to the Theory of Dramatic Genres is the first comprehensive work in Slovenia dealing with the emergence and development of dramatic genres. It is a work of international importance including examples that extend beyond the national borders. It is concerned with fundamental notions and genre theories from Aristotle onwards, structural elements determining individual genres, their historical development from ancient times to the end of the 20th century. The author argues that the highlighted historical turns only partly coincide with familiar epochs in arts i.e. style formations.
