The discussion attended by linguists as well as translators and information technologists pointed out the pronounced topicality of linguistic technologies, emphasised the importance of such tools for intercultural studies, linguistic analyses, translation, the construction of new text corpora and improvement of the already existing ones, and drew attention to some of the challenges that this interesting and topical field, which developed – and is still developing – in cooperation with scientists and experts from various fields and disciplines, is now facing.

The programme reform is being carried out on three levels: the first level of education has already undergone the reform, with students enrolling in new programmes in the academic year 2007/2008, while the reform concerning postgraduate studies on the 2nd and 3rd levels of studies is still under way.

The main theme of the meeting was linguistic intertwining in border areas in the light of Romanic-Germanic-Slavic linguistic interference.
