At the Conference “Science to Market” the use of modified gene for the synthesis of a shorter 6-phosphofructo-1-kinase fragment that was protected by a patent has been presented. The gene might be used for enhancing the productivity of specific bio-products by various commercial microorganisms.

COBISS.SI-ID: 4039450PhD Thesis of T. Šolar deals with the role of 6-phosphofructo-1-kinase (PFK1) from A. niger. A posttranslational modification of PFK1 enzyme has been described that resulted in formation of a highly active, citrate inhibition resistant shorter fragment. The modified enzyme was found to be activated to a higher level by specific activators in respect to the native enzyme, which caused deregulated metabolic flux through glycolysis. In the second part of her thesis T. Šolar showed that glucosamine-6-phosphate deaminase competed with PFK1 enzyme for the same substrate fructose-6-phosphate.
