We have improved the three-dimensional convective boiling model . For this purpose a general near-wall model for wall-to-fluid heat transfer was developed. The model takes into account the impact of increased two-phase wall friction due to local evaporation on the wall. By using the improved model, we have successfully simulate various boiling experiments.

The program NEPTUNE_CFD was used to simulate flow boiling at very high heat fluxes. We have used and tested a simplified model of critical heat flux, which is based on the mechanism of bubble merging on the wall followed by formation of the vapor cloths between the wall and liquid. Boiling flow experiments at high heat fluxes close to critical heat flux were simulated. The model was able to predict the local wall temperature rise and the near-wall void fraction increase , which are characteristic phenomena of critical heat flux.
