We presented the research activities of the Reactor Engineering Division of Jožef Stefan Institute in the fields of microstructurally short cracks and multiscale model development. The presented results included computed mesoscopic stress fields, development of shear bands and a sensitivity analysis of the equivalent macroscopic response at various sizes of polycristalls. We showed the connection between the grain orientations and the crack tip parameters. We explained the influence of the development of shear bands and crack-containing grain size on the crack tip parameters.

COBISS.SI-ID: 21453351The lecture presented the research efforts of the Jozef Stefan Institute, Reactor Engineering Division in the area of modeling grain structure materials. Methods of simulating the random nature of grain structures were presented as well as appropriate constitutive models. Methods for ascertaining macroscopic equivalent values and models with embedded short cracks were presented. The latest understanding of the effect of microstructures on short cracks were explained.

COBISS.SI-ID: 218506Within the research project we assess the current state-of-the art of multiscale material modeling in the area of assessing material ageing and ensuring safe operation of nuclear and radiation facilities. The multiscale models have an important role in our understanding and forecasting the early development of damage in metals. Models and methods were also assessed from a perspective of being able to be used by industry.
F.03 Increased qualifications of the research and development staff
COBISS.SI-ID: 721578The document defines strategic goals for sustainable nuclear technology platform. Nuclear energy needs to remain competitive, appropriate solutions for radioactive waste need to be implemented, new reactor types should be developed while maintaining appropriate research infrastructures. Education and training of researchers and engineers is also necessary for maintaining knowledge.
