In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Slovenian Biochemical Society, the association in 2008 awarded for the first time a recognition named after prof. dr. Savo Lapanje who was one of the pioneers of modern biochemistry in Slovenia. Lapanje Award is professional recognition given to society member for outstanding achievements in the field of biochemical sciences in research or teaching area, for significant contribution to the development of biochemical sciences in the Slovenian and the international arena. The Lapanje price was delivered to prof. dr. Radovan Komel.

COBISS.SI-ID: 242021376P1-0104 “Functional Genomics and Biotechnology for Health” is one of the best Life Sciences programme research groups. In addition to numerous scientific publications, it introduced molecular genetic analysis in Slovenian medical science and practice and forensic medicine, and contributed pharmaceutical industry with first “Slovenian” biological drugs. This is truly an interinstitutional and interdisciplinary group, harbouring research groups from Faculty of Medicine UL (Medical Centre for Molecular Biology, MCMB) and National Institute of Chemistry (L11 – Biosynthesis and Biotransformation).

COBISS.SI-ID: 604748Virtual Centre of Excellence Biotechnology with Pharmacy (CoE BP) in 2008 celebrated the end of first period of his activity, co-financed by European Structural Funds for Regional Development (ESRD). Strategic aims of the Centre, associating 19 partners from the university, research institutes, clinics, SMEs and pharmaceutical industry, were overcoming interinstitutional barriers in order to assure long-term cooperation, and up-grade / purchase and maintain infrastructure, technologies and top expertises to create innovative environment, comparable with other advanced countries in EU.
