The project aimed at setting up cross-border tourist itineraries and destination points with cultural content in Istria which were identified and determined on the basis of scientific valorisation of the common cultural heritage. The central objectives of the project were the enhancement of existing and creation of new tourist destinations in towns and in the countryside, improvement of cultural and tourist cross-border activities, and promotion of border region development accompanied by the expansion of access to the offer in the area of cultural tourism.

The primary purpose of the symposium was to objectively inform as wide a public as possible of the issues which are of fundamental importance for the understanding of Slovenian recent history and of the still-topical and delicate subjects. The scientific symposium was attended by several representatives of the authorities, scientific institutions, professors, students, Slovenian, Croatian and Italian diplomacy.

Cultural impacts of the Venetian Republic in the Eastern Adriatic region were presented within the framework of the project. In the first year the focus was primarily on applied art and trade in pottery and glass products; in the second year the focus shifted to architectural history and history of art. The project represents an important contribution to the knowledge of the processes of integration of the Venetian hinterland into the Republic's economic as well as aesthetic area of influence.

The project presented the archaeological finds that testify to intensive contacts and long-distance trade in luxury articles (ceramics, jewellery and weaponry) between Central and Southern Italy, Istria and Western Slovenia in the early Bronze Age (between the 8th and 5th centuries BC). The Slovenian project counterparts set up the 'Piceni and Europe' exhibition which was accompanied by the scientific conference 'Piceni and Europe' organized by the University of Primorska.
