EACS is the leading organization for Chinese Studies in Europe and important also worldwide. Mitja Saje and Jana Rošker, elected member of the board of EACS from 2004 to 2008 succeeded to bring the organization of the XVI biennial conference of EACS to Ljubljana. Conference was a success, both from the point of view of organization and the contents. Members of research team were also on the editorial board of the proceedings of the conference.

Participating institutions are interested in how the children and adolescents are learning about citizenship in the European context and how they build their identities. The VIIth conference in Ljubljana followed conferences in London (1999), Athens (2000), Bruges (2001), Budapest (2002), Prague (2003) and Cracow (2004).

The Paper contributes toward better understanding of the development of contemporary Chinese philosophy and epistemology. It underlines Zhang’s achievements In comparative study of Western and Chinese philosophy, stressing cultural base of thought patterns. Central piece of Zhang’s research though is his work on pluralistic epistemology.

At the secondary and higher level education young people develop abstract and logical thinking and are capable to understand social, historical and cultural background of differences. Nonetheless, some stereotypes picked up from the social environment persist as a part of general beliefs, which influence expectations and judgements of people.
