Dr. Pavel Turner (1842-1924) had correspondence with almost all important Slovenes who were politically active in the last decades of the 19th and the first decades of the 20th century. His correspondence is kept in the Provincial Archives of Maribor and so far had not been, with some rare exceptions, thoroughly investigated. The scientific critical edition of Turner's correpospondence represents a valuable source for the study of political and cultural history of Slovenes and will be an excellent reference work for all the researchers who work in this field.

The authenticity of religiousness and its motivation is one of the most difficult questions arising in the scientific research of religiousness. Allport's suggestions from 1957 have a paradigmatic character with reference to this subject. A comparison of Slovene Catholics, Srb Orthodox Christians, Bosnian Muslims and American Protestants raises doubts about the universality of this concept and its prevailing operationalization. The Slovene Styrian sample shows the connection between intrinsic and pyschological extrinsic religiousness, which is similar to all the non-American samples.

Slovene culture was already well developed before the first world war, but the fall of the old monarchy and the emergence of the new country still meant an important turning point for Slovenian culture. After 1918 foundations were laid for the realization of the Slovene historical national political program of national cultural equality and independence. These foundations were unstable, the problems facing the nation, represented an obstacle for cultural activites. The strong will of individuals removed a lot of these obstacles and strenghted the foundation on which to build a solid future.

Slovene historiography still has some unresolved questions about the situation of market settlements in the medieval and modern-time Hungarian kingdom, The original Hungarian expression mezőváros has never been anything else than the equivalent of the Slovene word trg - market town, i.e. a settlement with the right to have a market. In the case of mezőváros, the author argues to historical facts, the terminology of Slovene historiography should use expressions such as "market town", but not "city" or "town". The use of such terminology would convey the proper meaning for the Slovene public.
