In 2004, 2005 and 2007, an international team directed by I. Šprajc accomplished archaeological surveys in central parts of the Yucatan peninsula, financed by international foundations. The results published in a monograph (most chapters are (co)authored by program group members Šprajc, Oštir, Podobnikar and Kokalj) contribute substantially to the understanding of settlement patterns, architectural and urban characteristics, relations with neighboring regions, and correlations among site locations, environmental peculiarities and territorial organization of the Preclassic and Classic Maya.
D.01 Chairing over/coordinating (international and national) projects
COBISS.SI-ID: 27981357The program group led by K. OŠTIR and Ž. KOKALJ organized a scientific meeting (June 11-13, 2006) attended by more than 40 participants, 20 of them from abroad. In 2006, this was the most important event within the ArchaeDyn project funded by the French Ministry of Science. 7 French institutions and ZRC SAZU from Slovenia, as the only foreign partner, cooperate in this project, whose main objective is the study of relations between natural sources and long-term spatial dynamics of settlement. We achieved a notable progress in our research and coordinated future work within our common project.
B.01 Organiser of a scientific meeting
COBISS.SI-ID: 28461357We collaborated in the establishment of The Center of Excellence Fabrica, co-financed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology and Ministry of the Economy of the Republic of Slovenia, and the European Union. Within this center, which dealt with sustainable management of natural and cultural landscape in the karstic areas of Slovenia and neighboring regions, we coordinated several work packages, focusing on the application of Geographical Information Systems and remote sensing in various studies, and on the preparation of the project web portal and an internet GIS server.
D.02 Establishment of a research centre, laboratory, study course, association
COBISS.SI-ID: 24616237K. OŠTIR is co-principal investigator of the joint institute founded in early 2007 by ZRC SAZU, Centre nationale de la recherche scientifique (CNRS, France) and the University Franche-Comté (France). This is the first Slovenian-French joint European laboratory connecting researchers from different countries. The team of about 30 researchers of various specialties is dedicated to studying spatial planning and its relationship with the systems of landscape transformation, employing modern technology that includes satellite imagery, spatial analyses, simulations and predictive modelling.
D.02 Establishment of a research centre, laboratory, study course, association
COBISS.SI-ID: 26263341T. PODOBNIKAR and K. ZAKŠEK elaborated a high quality digital terrain model of Slovenia and neighbouring regions, with a resolution of 12,5 m, which is important for a wide range of analyses in all those fields of research, education and usage that have some relation with the space we live in. More than 25 different datasets were used, including maps, geodetic measurements, photogrammetry and remote sensing. We developed our own method of weighting sum with geomorphological corrections.
