It concerns new clustering methods for network data which are based on the optimisational approach. The scientific paper, published in a distinguished scientific journal on social science methodology, presents the results of a meta-analysis of studies using a split-samples experimental design comparing the response rates of web versus other survey modes. It is the first published scientific meta-analysis to deal with an aspect of web survey methodology. Already when preparing the analysis it was presented at several scientific meetings (including through invited lectures). The analysis is based on an extensive bibliographic database WebSM, developed within the 5th EU FP.

The paper discusses the reliability and validity of ego-centered social network data. In this complex study, a meta analytical approach was taken to study the effects of several important factors (measurement method, characteristics of the measurement instrument, respondent characteristics) on measurement quality estimates. An important finding is that more valid estimates were obtained through the telephone interviews. For the study a software application for the collection of social network data was developed and tested. The paper has been cited 4 times (without auto-citations) in the WoS.

The article offers an empirically supported theoretical background for understanding and explaining the co-operative and harmful uses of the Internet. It is the first systematic study of a very relevant topic and offers an analysis underpinned by a sound theoretical background, a sophisticated methodological apparatus and reliable multivariate statistical analysis. The article was published in the journal Information Society, which is classified in the top one-third of journals in the information sciences. The article has been cited four times in the WoS (without auto-citation).
