European Socia Survey is a major collaborative project aimed at charting and explaining changes in the social, political and moral climate within and between the European member States. Other aims of the project include implementing and disseminating standards of rigorous quality in comparative social measurement in Europe and developing social indicators that supplement existing indicators. In 2005 the European Commissioner for Science and Research, Janez Potocnik has awarded the Descartes prize 2005 to five European scientific projects.

The journal issues three volumes annually and publishes peer-reviewed scientific papers and reviews of scientific books.
