COBISS.SI-ID: 56313345The article checks the validity of the theory of purchasing power parity for Slovenia and Hungary in comparison to Austria, Germany, France and Italy by employing data from January 1992 to December 2001. The empirical work completed so far reveals that the underlying cause of real exchange rate appreciation in both transition countries stems from differences in relative productivity gains and from steady price increases due to insufficient competition in the nontradable sector.

As a result a modern Ph.D. study program was prepared while in 2006 the faculty became primus on the national level among comparable faculties regarding papers published in international refereed journals per researcher.

COBISS.SI-ID: 9425436This was a presentation on a conference of Econometric society, where Timotej Jagrič was selected as a chair of one session. He also presented a paper where he studied cyclical patterns in a transition economy. He introduced a dynamic perspective into the analysis by applying multivariate wavelet analysis. The main findings are that there is a significant business cycle component in aggregate economic activity. Additionally we find that there are three distinctive periods of business cycle synchronization, which have an important impact on the properties of a business cycle.
