Close virological monitoring of patients with chronic hepatitis B and C is important for the determination of disease stage and progression, for assessing the need for treatment and for monitoring the antiviral therapy response. Virological tests for monitoring chronic infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) include serological tests, nucleic acid techniques for the detection of HBV DNA, tests for the determination of resistance of HBV to antiviral agents, tests for the determination of HBV genotype, and tests for the determination of different mutations in HBV genome.

COBISS.SI-ID: 18617817Invited lecture at the 18th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID) entitled: Hantavirus infctions ( Barcelona, 19. 04. 2006). The invited lecture was presented during the two hour special symposium “Emerging infections in Europe” during the the most important annual congress of European clinical microbiology and infectious diseases specialists. An overview presentation consists of hantavirus biology, epidemiology and transmission, pathogenic mechanisms of infections, clinical presentations and microbiological diagnostics.

COBISS.SI-ID: 20787161Typing involves the differentiation of microorganisms within a species to individual strains according to their phenotypic and genotypic differences. Together with epidemiologic and clinical data, bacterial typing is useful for the study of epidemics caused by new epidemic strains outside hospitals (e. g.community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria meningitidis, Salmonella spp., Campylobacter jejuni, Helicobacter pylori) and inside hospitals (including those with resistant bacteria). Phenotypic and genotypic methods can be used.
