Additional turbulence models and exchange of mercury within water and atmosphere upgraded PCFLOW3D model. Link with RAMS-Hg model, dealing with the modelling of Hg in the atmosphere, made the calculation of regional cycle of Hg possible, since the exchanging the Hg within water and atmosphere was modelled. Implementation for yearly mass balance of Hg for the Mediterranean Sea and the Gulf of Trieste was successful. The results are important for solving the issues of mercury pollution in the aquatic environment and adverse effects (methylation and bioaccumulation of Hg in the food chain).

Exploratory tunnel of the Šentvid tunnel was used as a full scale in-situ laboratory during the excavation of the main tunnel. The displacements ahead of the excavation face were geodetic monitored. Innovative experiment gave 3D displacement history of the rock mass ahead of the tunnel face due to the excavation process and the influence distance of the excavation works as well. Recent paper gives all the details of the experiment layout and procedures used and comments on the experience gained during its execution in the extreme conditions of underground constructions.

An environment for automatic identification of systems, construction of an appropriate mathematical model and simultaneous optimization (calibration) of model parameters was made. Theoretical and empirical model approaches were combined and deductive and inductive way of building mathematical models was incorporated. The basic knowledge is given in the generic library of variables and processes, the modeller gives specific knowledge, after which the tool for mechanical learning manufactures the possible structures of the modelling system and moderates them on the measured data of this system.

For large landslides in Slovenia the triggering factors were determined, to delineate the landslide hazard areas. For the Slano blato landslide, where precipitations were trigger, measured suction enables the forecasting of further motion of the slides. With the innovative reinforced concrete draining wells, developed on the basis of laboratory and field research, and mathematical modelling, important results in practice were achieved: more than 100-m long displacements and the advancement of the two most active landslides in Slovenia (Slano blato and Macesnikov plaz) were stopped.

In two experimental forest plots on the Dragonja watershed, having contrasting forest stature and orientation (north, south), intercepted precipitation in different periods of the year was estimated. Interception was mathematically modelled and written in analytical form. Results are important for forest and water management in the sub-Mediterranean climate, since the measured intercepted precipitations showed that in dry seasons these can significantly reduce the surface runoff, causing lower stream discharges, extension the period of hydrologic drought and reducing drinking water sources.
