Four full-scale tests on 1.5 m high plated girders with different configurations of longitudinal stiffeners and loaded predominantly in shear were performed. Further on, numerical simulations were used to perform a comprehensive parametric study. The main results of this research are: determination of the criterion for the minimum stiffener stiffness that assures full panel shear strength and conclusions regarding the methods of calculation of the shear buckling coefficient.

Based on 43 tests the net cross-section resistance was determined experimentally for high strength steel. For different strength functions the corresponding partial safety factors were determined by means of probabilistic approach. The obtained results served as a basis for correction of the design net cross-section resistance of high strength structures in the draft of the Eurocode standard EN 1993-1-12.

Methodology and an abstract description are developed for a general symbolic description of transient coupled problems in mechanics of solids. The developed methodology enables the derivation of expressions for quadratically convergent direct and exact sensitivity analysis of complex material models. The methodology is applied on a range of problems within the research group (see.. the references)

The research work resulted in a computational method and software for the nonlinear analysis of the response of reinforced frame structures to short-term mechanical load or to simultaneous influence of fire and mechanical load. The family of deformation finite elements was extended to include what we called a "crack band" finite element. A combination of the "crack band" finite element and the arch length Crisfield method was found to be appropriate for determining the entire load-deformation curve of the structure.

The topic of research is controlled thermal and illumination responses of built environment in real-time conditions. The aim is to harmonize thermal and optical behaviour of a building by coordinating energy flows passing trough the transparent part of the envelope. For this purpose a test chamber with an opening on the southern side was built. Changeable geometry of the opening is realized with the automated external roller blind. A fuzzy control system enables the positioning of the shading device according to the desired indoor set points and the outdoor conditions.
