In this paper we present the results of the investigation of the Makirina Bay (central Adriatic) sediments with regard to their origin and natural influences in fossil sediments. Therefore, the main objectives of this paper are to: define the origin of the sediments, especially regarding formation processes, evaluate the economic value of the healing mud and to used in medical treatment and estimate the degree of anthropogenic pollution. The results of this investigation have opened new perspectives concerning the processes of formation of the sediments within these depositional environments.

In this paper, the area affected by fish farm and sewage derived particulate nitrogen in the Murter Sea and Pirovac Bay (central Adriatic, Croatia) was assessed using the stable nitrogen isotopic composition (d15N) in particulate organic matter and biota in the exposed areas. The results suggest that increased d15N values in the POM and biota in the impacted areas are predominantly due to nitrogen losses through feed wastage and fish excretion and due to the sewage discharge into the coastal ecosystems. The results of the study will provide basic information for the management of environment.

Detailed topographic images derived from LiDAR data of the Idrija and Ravne strike-slip faults in NW Slovenia reveal geomorphological and structural features that shed light on the architecture and kinematic history of both fault systems. Because both fault systems occur within forested terrain, a tree removal algorithm was applied to the data; the resulting images reveal surface scarps and tectonic landforms in unprecedented detail. This study highlights the potential contribution of LiDAR surveying in both lowrelief and high-relief terrain to a regional seismic hazard assessment programme.

The internal oxidation of a two-phase Ag-1.3 at.% Se alloy in pure oxygen was studied at 750, 800 and 830 oC. The alloy is composed of a dilute solid solution of selenium in silver and Ag2Se intermetallic particles. The internal oxidation of this alloy proceeds through gradual in-situ oxidation of the Ag2Se particles as well as diffusive internal oxidation of selenium from solid solution. A theoretical treatment of the phase relationships in a hypothetical Ag-Ag2Se-Ag2SeO3 ternary phase diagram is presented to assist the explanation of the mechanism of in-situ oxidation.

In the study of the structure and chemistry of politype planar faults in ZnS sphalerite crystals from the hydrothermal pyrometasomatic Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag vein deposit Huaron in Peru were used. The twin crystals from both localities are microscopically twinned. The segregation of chalcopyrite inclusions along the twin boundaries in sphalerite crystals from the Trepča mines is the main reason for the local increase in the concentration of Cu in the close vicinity of the twin boundaries. Therefore, the presence of Cu could not be the reason for the twin-boundary formation in ZnS.
