A. Ramšak, J. Mravlje, and T. Rejec have organized the International conference “Fundamentals of Nanoelectronics” which took place in Portorož, Slovenia, from 2-7 September 2007 (http://www-f1.ijs.si/portoroz07). The conference was attended by 74 scientists from Slovenia, France, Greece, Italy, Israel, Hungary, Germany, Holland, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland and Great Britain. Main topics covered in 52 talks include: the influence of electron-electron interaction on conductance of nanosystems, quantum entanglement etc.

COBISS.SI-ID: 21488935T. Prosen was awarded the Zois prize for the year 2005 for outstanding achievements in science, which is the highest rank national Slovenian prize in science. The field of his research is quantum and classical nonequilibrium statistical physics. An important part of his research activity represent studies of non-integrable classical and quantum chaotic systems with few degrees of freedom, where he used analytical and numerical techniques in order to investigate statistical properties and universality of dynamics.

COBISS.SI-ID: 225400832J. Bonča has in collaboration with S. S. Kruchinin from Kiev organized a NATO sponsored conference entitled »Electron Transport in Nanosystems«, that took place between Sept. 17 and 21 in Yalta, Ukraine (http://users.iptelecom.net.ua/~etn/index.htm). 57 participants from Belgium, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, UK, USA, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Sweeden, Corea, Japan and Ukraine, attended the conference. Among participants, the most eminent was A.F. Adreev, the vice-president of the Russian academy of sciences and others.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2126692Tadić has been invited by the organizers of the conference series International Conference of Computational Science ICCS, to set up and lead three workshops (2004 in Krakow, Poland, 2006 in Reading, England, and 2007 in Bejing, PR China) whith the basic idea to address and stimulate applications of networks in various areas of theoretical research on complex [COBISS.SI-ID 19915047; COBISS.SI-ID 20785703]. Within the framework of the EU research project PATTERNS, we have also organized the workshop "Self-Assembly and Properties of Complex Patterns", 2006, Portorož, Slovenija

COBISS.SI-ID: 20088615In his invited talk at the 11th International Meeting on Ferroelectricity, Sep. 5-9, 2005, Iguassu Falls, Argentina/Brazil, R. Pirc presented a theoretical model of organic relaxor ferroelectrics. These are either high energy electron irradiated copolymers of P(VDF-TrFE) type or terpolymers such as P(VDF-TrFE-CFE). The basic assumption is that compositional disorder is responsible for the appearance of polar nanoregions (PNRs) in the material, which are coupled through infinite range random interactions of a spin glass type.
