Aleksander HORVAT edited proceeding volumes of two Meetings of Slovenian Geologists (2005, 2007), organized every two years by the Department of Geology, Faculty of Science and Engineering. A total of 112 contributions were edited in these two volumes. The editorial work is important for development of geology in Slovenia, because such volumes provide the researches with the newest results on basic and engineering geological investigations in Slovenia.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1121621Vasja MIKUŽ was a co-author of seven chapters in a monograph on minerals of Slovenia. In these chapters the following minerals are described: various minerals from Savske jame, mellite from Trbovlje coalmine, pyrite from Dolžanova soteska, minerals in septaria from Gornji Štrihovec, crystals in fossils, pyritized fossils from Tunjice Hills and Seidl's collection in Novo mesto. The chapters are fully illustrated and represent an importnat contribution to the knowledge of Slovenian natural heritage, to popularization of geology and to Slovenian geological terminology.
F.27 Contribution to preserving/protecting natural and cultural heritage
COBISS.SI-ID: 522229In the textbook the principles of geochemical classification of chemical elements according to their geochemical affinity is explained. In the next chapter the rules of substitution of major with trace elements is described according to Goldschmidt and Damon; explanation and application of partition coefficient is given. The meaning of major and trace elements (especially REE and incompatible elements) for classification, interpretation and source material modeling, origin and genesis of igneous and metamorphic rocks is described. Theoretical part is supported with examples from Slovenia.

COBISS.SI-ID: 576094The aim of this textbook is to introduce the students of civil engineering into the basis of mineralogy and petrology and uses of rocks in civil engineering porpuses. In separate chapters the origin, classification, identification, recognition and occurrence of minerals, igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks are described. In each chapter, an atlas of images is enclosed for identification of rocks and minerals.

COBISS.SI-ID: 227348736In the last five years we arranged a "Mesozoic" botanical garden with a sandbox for demonstration of paleontological excavations, we equipped a laboratory for preparation of fossils and prepared comparative collections of authentic dinosaur bones and models. Every year during summer holidays we organize creative workshops, where children come to know research methods in paleontology. They investigate dinosaurs first hand and determine for themselves where dinosaurs lived, what they ate, how they walked etc.
