Among the various methods of remediation of contaminated soil, immobilization is one of the most commonly used methods. The purpose of the study was to examine the use of industrial waste in the immobilization process. We studied the use of red mud and paper ash from the incineration of sludge from the treatment of paper-mill wastewater as additives for soil remediation from the area of ??the old Cinkarna in Celje by the process of immobilization by processing into a building composite. The results showed that the addition of recycled industrial waste from treatment of industrial wastewaters leads to the immobilization of potentially toxic substances from the soil in the bound matrix of composites. The environmental aspects and physico-mechanical properties of the composites for the purpose of use for the rehabilitation of the degraded area were studied. The present research is the basis for the development of the remediation process of contaminated soil, which includes the recycling of suitable industrial waste (including from industrial wastewater treatment processes) in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and closure of material loops
