This research arises from the importance of integrating knowledge of economic/business and spatial sciences for graduates who must think and act in interdisciplinary contexts. The systematic literature review revealed that this interdisciplinary field is richly present in original scientific research, and is undoubtedly topical and worthy of research efforts. The main objective of this paper is to analyze important factors that contribute to the attitudes of students towards interdisciplinary knowledge, and factors that shape their intentions to use and integrate this knowledge in the future. The conceptual model formed was tested using structural equation modeling (SEM). Research results confirm the importance of integrating economic/business and spatial sciences’ knowledge, for graduates. As presented in the paper, results of the study have important implications for higher education institutions, for reform and update of their study programs, as well as for educators in the field of spatial sciences and economic/business sciences, in research and in education.

In this paper we present the matrix of quality aspects of the study programs and the higher education institutions (HEI), delivering the study program (we focus especially on economics and business studies), that are included and structured in standards of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA). The purpose of this paper is to present the quality and excellence assessment, that is the basis for several national quality assurance agencies that accredit national study programs and institutions (governmental national accreditations), as well for accreditations bodies that are members of ENQA, that award additional (non-governmental accreditations) to HEIs, who are seeking for confirmation of their study programs’ excellence. For business and economics study programs it is particularly important that their excellence reflect the ability of study programs to customize and generate changes in the environment. Since the deep and dynamic changes in the globalizing environment represents the business frame of companies, it is necessary that also the assessment of excellence of economics and business studies follow them by updated orientation to multiple stakeholders and holistic approach.

The paper presents part of the evaluation study results on professional development of pedagogues in vocational education. The results indicate to what extent this group of teachers are active creators and guides of their own professional development. Based on the data analysis in what fields of their professional work and in what forms of professional training they participate most frequently, one can conclude that teachers in vocational programmes are not very active creators of their own professional development. Nevertheless, it has to be pointed out that professional development of teachers in vocational education programmes has to be derived from the specificities of their situation between the spheres of education and employment and that it is therefore not possible to provide a unique guideline how to activate teachers for their own professional development.
