The paper describes the Zatrnik limestone, a characteristic several hundred meters thick Triassic to Lower Jurassic formation of the Bled Basin. Four sections have been measured in the eastern part of the Pokljuka plateau. An Upper Ladinian radiolarian assemblage was recognised in the lowermost part, whereas conodont data indicate Julian to latest Tuvalian/early Norian age for the rest of the logged sections. Microfacies analysis indicates hemipelagic deposition on a basin plain and/or distal slope, which is often interrupted by distal calciturbidites. The paper brings important new data on the age and depositional environment of the Zatrnik limestone, which is one of the least studied formations in Slovenia. Our project team contributed radiolarian dating to this study.
