The paper presents results of SEM/EDS analysis of particles deposited in snow from the Maribor area. We focused mainly on particles with potentially toxic elements (PTE). The study showed that the most common PTE-bearing particles in all samples were iron oxides (pure FeO and FeO with minor contents of other PTEs), which represented between 70 and 92% of all analysed particles. Shavings of Fe-Cr (Ni, Cu, Mn) alloys were present in large quantities at sampling sites near the Melje industrial area. Spherical particles rich in Si and geogenic minerals (e.g. ilmenite, barite) also appeared throughout the area, while shavings of Cu-Zn alloys were found only in the immediate vicinity of the foundry.
