In 2020, new clinical practice guidelines for head and neck cancer were published. In preparation of the guidelines, professionals from all four Slovenian institutions dealing with this type of cancer collaborated: Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Cervicofacial Surgery, Clinical Department of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery, and Clinic for Dental Diseases, the University Clinical Center Ljubljana (all three); Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery, the University Clinical Center Maribor; Institute of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine University of Ljubljana; and the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana. In the guidelines, recommendations for diagnostic procedures, therapy and follow-up of patients after treatment are presented. F.17 Transfer of existing technologies, know-how, methods and procedures into practice
COBISS.SI-ID: 54119939Traditionally, Chair of Otorhinolaryngology (Medical Faculty University of Ljubljana), ENT Clinic (UKC Ljubljana) and Phoniatric section of the Association of Otorhinolaryngologists (at the Slovenian Medical Association) organize on annual basis a professional meeting “Otolaryngology Day”, on topics suggested by participants of the previous meeting. In 2019, the meeting was organized on March 23 and in 2020 on September 26 and was dedicated to the most frequent malignant and benign diseases in the region of head and neck. There were more than 100 family doctors, pediatricians, school doctors, and otorhinolaryngologists who attended each of the two meeting. A book of lectures was also published each year.

COBISS.SI-ID: 13876483The problem of swallowing after treatment of head and neck cancer and the results of the analysis of a group of 109 patients were presented, in which we assessed the prevalence of dysphagia and the factors influencing its occurrence. 41.3% of patients had dysphagia after treatment. In the multivariate model, dysphagia was associated with cough. Systematic rehabilitation and emphasis on the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease are required to improve patient swallowing after treatment.
